PROGRAM OUTLINE
UNIQUE ATTRIBUTES OF PROGRAM
ICU’s IB Teacher Certification Program and IB Advanced Teacher Certification Program are both housed within the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The programs offer pre-service and in-service teachers the opportunity to deepen their understanding and knowledge of practical and theoretical aspects of IB education through graduate level courses taught by university faculty and IB World School practitioners. Graduate study at ICU is designed to develop broad and deep scholarship, the ability to conduct research and the ability to fill leadership roles for the realization of peaceful coexistence of humankind in Japan and abroad. Courses are offered in English or Japanese. The program brings together students with diverse linguistic and educational backgrounds, including graduates of IB schools, who will contribute to critical and active dialogue.
Students who complete the ICU IB Teacher Certification Program are eligible to apply for the IB Certificate as below;
IB certificate in teaching and learning MYP/ DP (CTL)
Eligible Students:
- Undergraduate students including students in the 5-year program at ICU who fulfill both of the following conditions:
①Students who have a GPA of 2.5 or above when register.
②Students who are enrolled in the Teaching Certification Program. - Graduate students at ICU including the 5-year program (M.A. or Ph.D. Program in any field) who fulfill the following conditions:
①Students who have (or expect to have by graduation) teaching certification in Japan or the equivalent in another country.
②Students who have a GPA of 3.0 or above when register.
* Non-degree students are not eligible.
ICU graduates who meet the specified requirements may participate as a non-degree student.

Requirements of the Program:
- Complete the required course: Total of 6 courses
Completion of 6 courses in total (3 courses of Required Courses, Choose one courses from each category of Elective Requirement Course) from the course list. - Complete a Teaching Practicum at an IB World School

IB advanced certificate in teaching and learning research (ACTLR)
Eligible Students:
Requirements of the Program:
- Complete the required course: Total of 6 courses
Completion of 6 courses in total (3 courses of Required Courses, Choose one courses from each category of Elective Requirement Course) from the course list. - Submission of master’s thesis with a research theme related to IB
- Conferral of the master's degree
- Teaching certification in Japan (or equivalent certification in another country
