Expanding My Teaching Through IB Education
Ryoichi Sakamaki(Chiba Prefectural Chiba High School)
The IB Teacher Certification Program gave me profound insights into inquiry-based, interdisciplinary teaching, and a learner-centered mindset. While specializing in language education at graduate school, I also explored factors influencing speaking and listening in second language acquisition, and gained broader knowledge in education and psychology. This dual focus helped shape my classroom practices today and has become the core of my teaching methods, helping students both take ownership of their learning and think critically. I highly recommend this program to anyone wishing to enhance their teaching, grow professionally, and expand their future opportunities.
A Life Rooted in Conceptual Understanding
Izumi Miyazaki(Benesse Corporation)
Conceptual understanding is a core principle of IB teaching that I have cherished since my years in an IB school. During secondary education, I discussed the common threads between two literary works written in different eras, Kokoro and The Stranger, and learned to perceive the world not through isolated facts but through overarching concepts.
Through the IBEC, I explored the IB program conceptually by connecting it with both domestic and international educational systems. As a result, I gained a deep understanding of the IB program from the principles to practice.
This approach taught me to ask: “What other phenomena is this connected to?” and “Can this learning be transferred elsewhere?” This mindset of seeking connections and applying knowledge across contexts continues to shape how I live and learn today.
