FAQ

① How do I apply for the dormitories?

A: You are required to submit a dormitory application form (via a web-based form), and applicants will be selected through a screening process.

Applications for April move-in typically open around January, and applications for September move-in typically open around May. Details will be announced on this website.

② What are the selection criteria?

A: Selection is conducted based on a comprehensive review of the information provided in the dormitory application form.

This includes your essay (such as your reasons for applying to the dormitories and your attitude toward communal living), family structure, and household income.

③ Am I guaranteed a place in the dormitories if I apply?

A: No. As the number of applicants usually exceeds the available capacity for each application period, admission to the dormitories cannot be guaranteed.

Therefore, we recommend that you also consider off-campus housing.
ICU Services provides support for finding off-campus accommodation, so please feel free to consult them.

④ Can I choose which dormitory I want to live in?

A: You will be asked to indicate your dormitory preferences in order of priority on the application form.

While these preferences are taken into consideration during the selection process, you may be assigned to your second or lower choice if there are many applicants for your first choice.

Please note that Global House typically has the largest number of applicants and is highly competitive.

⑤ Can I apply to move into a dormitory after enrollment?

A: Mid-term applications and selections are conducted so that students may move in at the beginning of a term.

However, depending on room availability and considerations such as the academic year and gender balance of current residents, recruitment may not be conducted.
In addition, availability is limited.

⑥ Can I stay in the dormitories during summer break?

A: During the summer recess (July and August), all dormitories are generally closed, and residents are required to move out temporarily.

Personal belongings used during the academic year must be stored in designated areas within the dormitories.

⑦ Can I return to the dormitories after studying abroad as an exchange student?

A: Yes, it is possible.
However, if you study abroad privately, you will be required to move out of the dormitories and must reapply and go through the selection process upon your return.

⑧ Is there a curfew?

A: There is no curfew.
However, residents are strongly encouraged to return to the dormitories by midnight (12:00 a.m.).

⑨ Are there dorm supervisor?

A: Yes. Each dormitory is supervised by a dorm supervisor couple, who are responsible for residents’ safety as well as facility and equipment management.

Zelkova House, Gingko House, and Oak House each have an on-site dorm supervisor couple.

Momi House and Maple House are jointly supervised by one dorm supervisor couple.

Canada House, Third Women’s Dormitory, Fourth Women’s Dormitory, and Global House are jointly supervised by one dorm supervisor couple.

⑩ Can prospective students visit the dormitories?

A: Individual dormitory tours are not available.

However, during Open Campus events, visitors may have the opportunity to tour specific dormitories.
