"Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant us peace)." This prayer concludes Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor. It is a mystery why Bach, a cantor of the Lutheran Protestant church, composed a Mass based on the Roman liturgy. Scholars observe in this work Bach's strong will to overcome the barriers of sectarianism, which was a fierce conflict at that time. The Christmas Concert is the most important musical event at the ICU. By performing this music, we will convey the value of music as a liberal art to the ICU community and tidings of peace to the world.
ICU music professor Nozomi Sato will direct the project. The choir will consist of ICU students, and other young chorists , the orchestra and soloists will be young professional musicians from the Tokyo area, and the ICU organist Testsuya Kan will play the organ.
