Yuichiro Shiina earned his bachelor's degree in organ from the Tokyo University of the Arts, where he also completed his master' degree in organ.
He won the second prize at the 1st Dallas International Organ Competition, third prize at the 12th Leipzig Bach International Competition, and first prize at the NDR (Northern German Broadcasting) Music Prize International Organ Competition in 2002. He studied organ with the late M. Radulescu and harpsichord with the late G. Murray at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and graduated with the highest unanimous honors. He also studied organ and harpsichord with J.C. Zehnder, J.A. Bötticher on bass, and A.Rooley for ensemble at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Switzerland.
He has given concerts in Japan, at the Swiss Organ Festival, and in Germany, Austria, and other European countries. He is a professor at Tohoku Gakuin University's Faculty of Letters, chief of the university's religion department, and director of the Institute for Religion and Music Research. He is also a member of the Hymn Committee of the United Church of Christ (UCCD), Japan, and organist at Kichijoji Church of UCCD.
