The Organ Sings

M. Luther, the founder of the Reformation, himself composed many chorales (hymns) in German. These beautiful melodies have been actively incorporated into works by various musicians throughout the ages and have been played up to the present day. This program will focus on chorale works, the most important repertoire of organ music, and will allow the audience to hear the rich and emotional songs of the organ.

Profile
Mari Ohki received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Tokyo University of the Arts. Studied in Germany on scholarship, studying with Arvid Gast at Musikhochschule Lübeck and Martin Sander at Hochschule für Musik Detmold. She graduated with highest honors and a National Performer Certificate.
She was the first Japanese winner of the 3rd Buxtehude International Organ Competition. Second Prize,Mainz International Organ Competition; Third Prize, Organ Section, 65th Prague Spring International Music Competition.
She has released several cd's including "Labyrinth of 51 Keys" which breathes new possibilities into the positif organ.
She has performed with many major national and international orchestras and ensembles.
She is a member of Japan Association of Organists. She has taught at Toyo Eiwa University, Tokyo College of Music, and Shizuoka Eiwa Gakuin University.
