ICU Study Abroad/Experiential Learning Support Scholarship

ICU Study Abroad/Experiential Learning Support Scholarship provides financial assistance to exchange/invitee students from our partner institutions who are in high need of financial aid and who have shown outstanding academic performance, by providing of scholarship to cover all on-campus dormitory fees.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria.

  1. Those who are applying for and are accepted into the Exchange/Invitee Program at ICU, and will return to their home university immediately after the Program ends.
  2. Those who will stay in an ICU’s on-campus dormitory during the Program.
  3. Those who are deemed to have financial difficulties in participating in the Program .

Scholarship details

  • For Exchange/Invitee students who will be enrolled at ICU for a full year:
    Waiving on-campus dormitory fees (including dorm admission fee, room and other fees) for three terms at ICU
  • For Exchange/Invitee students who will be enrolled at ICU for one term:
    Waiving on-campus dormitory fees (including dorm admission fee, room and other fees) for one term at ICU

*It is possible to apply for and receive the JASSO scholarship described below together with this scholarship.

How to apply

Applications for this scholarship will be accepted at the same time as the Exchange/Invitee Program applications. Application schedule is available on "How to Apply" page.

Selection

The selection process will be based on the documents submitted, and will take into account the need for financial support, as well as academic performance where necessary, and will be judged comprehensively.
In case of a high number of applicants, priority will be given to the following conditions:

  • Those from single-parent families or those who are unable to obtain financial assistance from their families
  • Households with many members
  • Those who have no prior international experience, such as studying or living abroad

Obligations

Recipients of this scholarship must:

  • Submit a program end report and a questionnaire which will be requested by ICU
  • Help promote the program and ICU
  • Comply with any other obligations and rules set forth in the program

Cancellation/Return of the scholarship

Cancellation of the scholarship will be discussed and determined if any of the following apply:

  1. If any false statements or fraudulent facts are found in the application documents.
  2. If there is a significant decline in academic performance before or during the study abroad period.
  3. If the participant withdraws from the program and/or fails to earn/transfer credits.
  4. If malicious non-compliance with program participation obligations is confirmed.
  5. If actions violating the rules of the university or partner institutions are confirmed.
  6. If the university deems it inappropriate to provide the scholarship for any other reason.

Those who are notified of cancellation of the scholarship may be required to return the scholarship amount that has already been paid in full. In such a case, the requested amount must be paid in a lump sum within one month from the date the return is requested.

JASSO Scholarship

JASSO Scholarship is a need-based scholarship provided by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), an independent administrative institution established under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho or MEXT). Scholarship coverage is a monthly stipend of JPY 80,000.
ICU will be able to call for applications for a JASSO scholarship only after we receive confirmation from JASSO. Depending on when JASSO notifies ICU of confirmation, the application information will be announced in February for April entry and in March/April for September entry.
It is possible to apply for and receive the ICU Study Abroad/Experiential Learning Support Scholarship together with this scholarship.
