Fundraising for Short Term Emergency Aid for Students in Need
- Support for Students amid COVID-19 Crisis -

Through our activities to support students affected by the COVID-19 crisis, we discovered that there are students who, for various reasons, are unable to receive financial support from their parents or relatives and are suffering from hardship for tomorrow's living expenses, although they remain latent. Even today, their own part-time incomes are affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, increasing their economic distress.
To alleviate the financial and psychological burden on students and allow them to continue their studies with as much peace of mind as possible, we would like to provide financial support of up to approximately 50,000 yen per case to provide the students with short-term emergency aid. In addition, since the purpose of this fundraising is to aid students truly in need, we developed a system to ensure that the financial support is provided promptly, from the time of their application to the time of their receiving.
We would greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Message from the Dean of Students

We are now amid the global pandemic, undergoing the “second year of COVID-19.” Although the current situation is far from the end of the scourge, the campus has regained its lively atmosphere with students’ joyful smiles, even though their faces are half-hidden by masks.
On the other hand, this prolonged COVID-19 crisis has imposed extended financial hardships on students. Their losses or drastic decreases of part-time jobs, particularly in the restaurant industry, as well as the decreased income of guarantors and anxiety of not knowing how long this will last, have cast a tremendous impact upon some students. Moreover, international students and students who have been enrolled for more than four years barely have scholarships to apply.
Students rely primarily on their part-time jobs as an income source to cover the cost of living, and it is the most difficult to get support among all the expenses. In AY2020, ICU Church established the “ICU Church Kakekomi Fundraising” to promptly help many students with food, housing, and other costs for today and tomorrow. Now, this fund has come to an end; thus, we decided to establish a similar support system within the University to carry on the spirit.
We would like to support their studies from the standpoint of short-term emergency aid, not to give up their studies due to financial hardship simply because they just happened to be a university student during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, because they are students during this challenging time, we believe that they will develop their abilities, discover the unknown themselves, and graduate as “truly liberal human resources" who can audaciously tackle unprecedented situations.
We would genuinely appreciate your kind understanding and support.

Etsuko KATO
