Individual Donors

How to Give (Individual Donors)

This page provides information on how individual donors can make a contribution to ICU. If any of the following categories apply to you, please click the corresponding button for detailed instructions on the dedicated pages:

Important Notes

Please review the following before submitting your donation.

  • Credit Card Ownership: Please use a credit card in your own name.
  • Cancellations and Refunds: Once the payment is processed, we cannot accept any changes, cancellations, or refunds.
  • Privacy Policy: The personal information you provide will be managed in accordance with the "ICU Policy on the Protection of Personal Information." This information will be used for donation-related administrative tasks and communications from the university.
  • Security: We use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates to encrypt the transmission of your application data and ensure the highest level of security. https://www.icu.ac.jp/en/policy/

Methods of Giving

Credit Card

You can make your donation via credit card payment.*
*Important Note on Receipt Dates: Please note that the date issued on your donation receipt will be the date the funds are transferred from the credit card company to ICU, not the date you submitted your application. Consequently, if you apply in December, the receipt may be issued in the following year, and the donation will be eligible for tax deduction in that following year.

Internet Banking and ATM

Click the "Give Now" button and complete the online application form. Upon completion, the bank account information required for the transfer will be displayed.

Donation via Bank Transfer Form

You can donate from your local financial institution using our dedicated bank transfer form (Furikomi-Yoshi).
No transaction fees will be charged when using the dedicated form at any branch of Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, or Japan Post Bank (Yucho Bank).

Tax Benefits

For Residents in Japan

Donations to ICU are eligible for tax benefits as contributions to a "Special Public Interest Promoting Corporation" (Tokutei Koeki Zoshin Hojin).
For Japanese income tax, you can choose between an "income deduction" or a "tax credit" when filing your tax return, depending on which is more advantageous for you. In addition, depending on your local municipality, a tax credit may also be applied to your resident tax. All necessary documents for your tax filing will be sent to you in a single package once your payment has been confirmed.

For residents in the U.S.

Donors residing in the U.S. can claim a tax deduction by making their contributions through the Japan ICU Foundation (JICUF).

Learn more about tax-deductible giving in the U.S. via JICUF.

To Guarantors of First-Year Students

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), any donations made by first-year guarantors until the end of December in the year of admission are considered "contributions related to school admission." Consequently, these donations are not eligible for tax deductions (Income Tax, Corporate Tax, or Inheritance Tax).
For donations to ICU, please note that only contributions made from January of the year following admission will be eligible for tax deduction. We appreciate your kind understanding in this matter.

Note on the Education and Research Fund: Please be advised that donations to the "Education and Research Fund" are eligible for tax deduction at any time during the student's enrollment.

Donor privileges and benefits
