AY2026 Taizansō Special Public Opening Events
Since its founding, faculty, staff, and students at International Christian University (ICU) have worked together to preserve the Taizansō. Through activities such as cleaning and public-opening assistance by the student volunteer group " Taizansō Project," tea ceremony club events, and research in museology courses, the university actively puts the preservation and public sharing of cultural assets into practice.
This academic year, a special public opening of Taizansō was held in conjunction with the ICU Festival and Tokyo Cultural Heritage Week 2026. Among the six surviving structures of Taizansō, visitors were free to view the exteriors of the Shoin, Machiai (waiting arbor), Kura (storehouse), Shako (garage), and Omotemon (main gate) during the event. Meanwhile, viewing Kofukyo (exterior only)—which includes the Ichijojiki (one-mat room)—was conducted through reservation-only guided tours with limited capacity, led by students and staff. During the event period, we received a total of JPY 96,214 in donations from participants. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for your generous support.
