Student Members of the "Common Good Grant Project" for Supporting Local Communities Selected

Starting in 2021, the Japan International Christian University Foundation (JICUF), in partnership with the Service-Learning Center, will implement the Common Good Grant (CGG) Project to support the community around ICU. JICUF will provide 1,000,000 yen in funding, which will then be allocated by students to local non-profit organizations in order to support the community.

From December 2020 to February 2021, ICU undergraduate students were invited to apply to be members of the Student Committee and work to allocate the funds. We received many applications, and after screening documents and interviews 15 students were selected to join the committee. On March 31, 2021, an orientation session was held to kick off the project, where the students met each other and reviewed the project schedule. The students also expressed what they were looking forward to from the CGG program; "I would like to connect with the local community around ICU," "I want to expand the possibilities of my student life," and "I want to learn about the management of NPOs from the perspective of grant supporters." were some comments shared by the students.

Moving forward, the students will research non-profit organizations around ICU and solicit grant applications from them. The student committee members and project administrators look forward to getting to know the local community.
