AIU X ICU Service-Learning (AISL), a joint service-learning program between International Christian University (ICU) and Akita International University (AIU)

From March 2 to April 1, 2023, International Christian University (ICU) and Akita International University (AIU) held their first joint service-learning program, AIU X ICU Service-Learning (AISL), for 30 days. A total of 10 participants, 5 AIU students and 5 ICU students, spent the first 2 weeks in Mitaka, Tokyo and the second 2 weeks in Gojome Town, Akita Prefecture, Japan, doing service-activities with the main theme of "Children's Place and Community Development".
Through the activities in each area, the participants learned mainly about 1) what kind of places are available for children and what kind of stakeholders are involved, 2) what kind of difference can be made in the education system, and 3) how children enjoy themselves.
At the interim and final presentations, students shared what they learned from the differences between the Mitaka and Gojome landscapes with the local community.
