Signing the Agreement concerning Service-Learning with AIU

On July 8, Service-Learning Center of ICU signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Akita International University (AIU) for the implementation of service-learning (SL) activities for students. The purpose of this MOU is for ICU and AIU students to conduct a 30-day joint SL program in Mitaka City, Tokyo and Gojome Town, Akita.

ICU started a partnership with Dochavengers (Gojome Town, Akita) in 2020. In March 2020, four ICU students engaged in SL activities related to town revitalization in Gojome Town. Then, two universities have signed a memorandum of understanding and will begin a joint SL program in March 2022.
Joint SL Program
  • Activities: AIU and ICU students will conduct service activities together with the main theme of "community development”.
  • Duration: 30 days in March (two weeks in Mitaka, two weeks in Gojome Town, Akita)
  • Participants: 8 AIU students and 8 ICU students
  • Courses:
    AIU: GS Special Topic 8 : Community Service-Learning (GSS307)
    ICU: Community Service-Learning I (SLR204)

Through this joint SL program, we hope that students from two international universities will be able to move back and forth between local and global perspectives.
