SL program on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ghana to be launched in summer 2021
Starting in the summer of 2021, a new service-learning program will be implemented in partnership with the Ho Technical University (HTU) in Ghana (depends on the situation of the COVID-19 infection).
In this program, HTU, located in the eastern city of Ho, Ghana, and a non-profit organization called SAFE Ghana, will arrange service activities for ICU students. The main activity areas are; Ho, located about a four-hour drive from Accra, the capital city, and Keta, located in the beach area about an hour and a half drive from Ho. At Ho, staying at the university's dormitory, students will conduct a survey of the situation of rural women and support their business of agricultural product sales. At Keta, students will engage in environmental education in local schools, and cooperative projects such as environmental and cultural projects, while staying with a host family.
Students are expected to work together with members of the local community in Ghana to learn various local issues such as agriculture, fisheries, and education, and they will think about these issues in comparison to Japan, and will engage in service activities that respond to the needs of the local community. Through this program, we hope students will take action to solve environmental issues and achieve a sustainable lifestyle in Japan, Ghana and the world.
For ICU students, please come to the SL Explanation session in December or January!
