Faculty-Led Service-Learning

Faculty-Led Service-Learning is a program designed to address social issues while deepening specialized academic learning. Each faculty member plans activities related to their area of expertise, and students participate in service activities for two to four weeks, either domestically or internationally, under their guidance. Prior to the activities, students attend preparatory sessions to build background knowledge and gain an understanding of the issues at hand. During and after the activities, they engage in reflective discussions with faculty to integrate academic knowledge with real-world experience. Through this process, students learn to connect theory with practice and develop the ability to apply their expertise within a social context.
This course is classified as an advanced-level (300-level) subject, and enrollment requires completion of SLR101 “Introduction to Service-Learning.” In addition, depending on the nature of the activities, students may be required to have completed certain major-specific courses (100-level or 200-level).
Faculty-Led Service Learning embodies International Christian University’s educational philosophy of “bridging academia and society,” providing students with opportunities for profound learning and practical engagement.
