Starting in 2021, the Service-Learning Center, in partnership with, the Japan International Christian University Foundation (JICUF), is holding the "Common Good Grant (CGG) Project" to support the local community around ICU. The CGG provides 1 million yen in funding from the JICUF to local non-profit organizations with the goal of revitalizing the local community.

The CGG is a student-led activity. The CGG student committee researched non-profit organizations near the ICU campus and solicited grant applications from them. After the applications were received, the committee reviewed the applications and made a final decision on how to distribute the ¥1,000,000. Through this project, ICU students experience the entire process of funding local non-profit organizations, from grant solicitation to grantee determination and reporting , while strengthening the bonds between ICU and the local community.

The student committee has decided to award grants to four organizations for AAY2022. Please click here for an overview of the organizations and their grant projects.

Please see here for the details of the organizations.

A reception with the recipient organizations was held on February 23, and was attended by members of the recipient organizations, student committee members, and SLC faculty and staff.

Reflecting the activities in AY2021, Mr. Yoshiaki Niiyama, the representative of the student committee, said, "From now on, I would like to participate in the activities of the recipient organizations and promote their activities to ICU and surrounding communities, and contribute to building the relationship between ICU and the local community." Ms. Saki Koyama, the vice representative of the committee, said, "We learned a lot from this project, as the entire grant operation process was student-driven."
