Report: AY 2024 Spring Term New Faculty Development Program (NFDP; April 3, 2024)

The New Faculty Development Program (NFDP) is an FD program for new faculty members. The program began in 2017 and is now in its eighth year.

The first NFDP session of the academic year was held for the faculty members who had just joined ICU on April 1, 2024.

The "Meet & Greet" was attended by nine faculty members who had joined ICU before 2023, allowing them to meet and mingle with the April 2024 arrivals in a friendly atmosphere. In a speech given by a faculty member who joined ICU in 2023, he expressed his appreciation for the NFDP as an opportunity for participants from various backgrounds to learn from each other, understand ICU, and deepen connections among faculty members.

After a short break, the "ICU Essentials" session was held exclusively for those arriving in April 2024. After brief self-introductions among the participants, Professor Kei Nasu (Major: History), Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), gave an overview of the NFDP and explained the minimum required matters for class management and research for this term. The session was very practical, in which participants exchanged opinions about the use of generative AI by students and asked specific questions about Moodle and the grade entry system.
