The “Seminar on Utilizing TAs” was held in January and February 2020.
Three sessions of the “Seminar on Utilizing TAs” took place in January and two repeat sessions were held in February. The seminar took place at Othmer Library 1F and was attended by approximately ninety faculty and staff members.
At each of the sessions, the CTL Director first explained, among other things, the purpose of the seminar, the new TA system which will start in AY 2020, and matters regarding harassment that should be borne in mind. After that, examples of good practices where TAs have been utilized successfully were introduced by a different faculty member each session. Although it was only a short period of time over lunchtime, through the seminar, the participants were able to deepen their common understanding of the new TA system and what kind of role TAs should play.
The purpose of the new TA system is to appoint ICU graduate school students as TAs, who are members of part-time academic staff at ICU, and have them undertake assistant duties in undergraduate education as training for becoming an academic or researcher in the future. At the same time, the new TA system aims to enhance and maintain the meticulous education provided in the undergraduate program at ICU.
