Activity Report on New Student Orientation in April 2025

Academic Planning Support (APS) and IBS (ICU Brothers and Sisters) conducted presentations and academic advising sessions during the new student orientation period in April 2025.
First, on April 2, the matriculation ceremony was held, and on the morning of April 3, APS and IBS delivered presentations on graduation requirements and course registration to new students, alongside Professor Natsumi Ikoma, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts (Majors: Literature, and Gender and Sexuality Studies), and members of the Educational Affairs Group.
Professor Kei Nasu, Director of the Center for Learning and Teaching (CTL) and responsible for the History major, led a session titled “Academic Planning,” encouraging students to design and advance their own learning at the university and explaining the liberal arts education and major system.
Following this, IBS conducted a session titled “Say Goodbye to Course Confusion with IBS!” which introduced the importance of course planning, necessary materials and tools for course registration, and provided practical advice on how to register for courses and structure one's course load through IBS's own experiences, failures, and role-playing. While approximately 90% of the over 460 participants who responded to the survey expressed satisfaction, some feedback included requests for more stories and experiences from IBS members, and some expressed interest in learning more about detailed course planning and balancing academic and extracurricular activities.
In the afternoon of the same day, a “Major Poster Session” featuring faculty members was held at the Main Library and Othmer Library (organized by APS). Many new students actively engaged with faculty members, introducing 31 majors, gathering information, and the venue was filled with enthusiasm.
