Academic Planning Support (APS) and ICU Brothers and Sisters (IBS)* held presentations and other events during the new student orientation period in August and September 2026.
On Monday, August 31st, Professor Akiko Fujii, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Professor of Language of Education, led a session titled “Academic Planning” for new students. She encouraged them to design and advance their own learning at the university, explaining liberal arts education and the major system.
Following this, APS and IBS introduced the key considerations for first-year course planning and the tools needed for course registration. They offered advice on drawing up course plans and specific registration procedures; by showing their timetables, IBS shared their own experiences and lessons learned. While all respondents to the participant survey indicated satisfaction, feedback also highlighted a desire for more Q&A time with IBS.
On a separate day, the Major Poster Session was held (APS-organized). Not only the September new students but also April entrants and others visited, actively gathering information while interacting with faculty members introducing 31 majors. The venue was filled with an enthusiastic atmosphere.
* IBS is a group of peer advisors (student advisors) composed of students from the second to fourth years. They provide advice from a student perspective on various topics related to course selection, four-year academic planning, study abroad, the Teaching Certification Program, and other aspects of life at ICU, targeting undergraduate students.
