On Saturday, December 6, 2025, the 2025 TAC FD Symposium "Foreign Language Education and AI," hosted by the Tama Academic Consortium (TAC) and co-hosted by the Institute of Educational Research and Service / Center for Teaching and Learning at International Christian University, was held in a hybrid format (in-person and online). The purpose of the symposium was to deeply explore the present and future of AI utilization in foreign language education.

Part I featured a keynote speech by Mr. Tom Gally, Specially-appointed Professor, Organization for Educational Development, Tokyo City University, on the theme: "Three Years After the ChatGPT Impact: The Future of Foreign Language Education Walking with AI." He discussed the initial shock of AI's advanced language comprehension ability, its specific applications in society and in foreign language learning, and considered the limitations of AI in both international communication and education.

Part II consisted of practical reports delivered by speakers from the TAC member universities (International Christian University, Kunitachi College of Music, Musashino Art University, Tokyo Keizai University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Tsuda University). These reports showcased concrete examples of AI utilization in foreign language education, allowing for the sharing of diverse knowledge from various educational settings.

Throughout the program, participants engaged in lively discussions, and their interactions deepened.

The recording of Professor Gally's lecture has been released on YouTube and is also available on the ICU OpenCourseWare (OCW) site.
