SUMMER PROOFREADING
Dear undergraduate students,
Summer Proofreading is the perfect service for you if you are looking to brush up on your English over the summer.
At the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), we offer the Proofreading (Academic English Support) service during term time.
This is targeted at undergraduate students who are working on their senior theses, assignments, or essays. Many students who have used Proofreading (Academic English Support) in the past have commented that it would be good if they could speak with a proofreader on a walk-in basis to ask a couple of questions or have a couple of sentences proofread on the spot. We have decided to offer such a service for a limited period over the summer — in Summer Proofreading, students can meet with a proofreader online and discuss or receive advice on anything they have written or wish to write.

In addition to discussing the usual types of academic work that students can have proofread at Proofreading (Academic English Support), students can basically talk about anything related to writing in English. If you would like someone to proofread an email or a piece or writing that you are working on over the summer, or if you would like someone to simply check your grammar, Summer Proofreading is for you. All levels of English are welcome.
The following are examples of instances where students can use Summer Proofreading. If any of the following apply to you, please feel free to drop in or to book an appointment.
- You have just finished writing an email in English. It’s just a couple of lines, but you’d like someone to read and check it before sending it out.
- You have a quick question about English grammar or about an English expression.
- You want to write something to introduce your club to new students joining in September.
- You’re trying to write a little bit in English each day and would like someone to help you revise what you’ve written.
- You would like someone to take a look at your application to see whether the tone is formal and appropriate.
- You’re writing an email to your internship company and would like advice on how to write a professional email.
- You’re thinking of applying for study abroad and have tried summarizing the things you hope to study at the study abroad destinations that you’re currently considering. You would like someone to help you proofread what you’ve written. (Please note that we are unable to proofread actual application essays for ICU’s exchange or study abroad programs.)
- You want help with expressing your ideas in English.
Summer Proofreading is available by appointment and on a walk-in basis. All sessions are conducted online using Zoom.
